Teaching Learners with Special Needs (LSENS) in the Inclusive Setting
Last week, educators and administrators of Journeys of Faith gathered for an insightful training on "Teaching Learners with Special Needs (LSENs) in an Inclusive Setting." The event was conducted by well-experienced special education teachers who shared their skills, strategies, experiences, and research findings on inclusive education with the end in view of progressing and updating pedagogy that is being applied to benefit all types of learners for them to succeed.
The training opened with a keynote address highlighting the importance of fostering an environment where all students regardless of their abilities can learn together emphasizing that inclusion is not just about physical proximity but is about creating a classroom culture that values diversity and promotes equal opportunities for all learners.
Creating inclusive classroom environments...
Workshops throughout the day focused on practical approaches to creating inclusive teaching environment that is conducive to effective teaching-learning experiences. Topics included differentiated instruction, teaching strategies and proactive intervention strategies. Participants engaged in hands-on activities that demonstrated how to adapt lesson plans to accommodate a wide range of special learning needs. The emphasis was on creating flexible learning environments that allow every student to succeed not only academically but also to gain knowledge in self-care, daily life skills and in advancing their psycho- social development.
One of the highlights was the discussion featuring the importance and use of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to implement inclusive practices in the school. Also tackled were the challenges that teachers face, such as limited resources and the need for continuing professional development, and the sharing of insights in the successes they've seen in student engagement that enhanced their students' academic achievement.Â

The training concluded with a call to action, urging participants to continue advocating for inclusive education in their communities. The event was not only a platform for learning but also a reminder of the collective responsibility and collaborative efforts of all stakeholders to ensure that all learners especially those with special needs, receive the support they need to thrive in an inclusive setting.
The training was a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with more capacity to meet the diverse needs of their students and to ensure best educational outcome for their learners.Â
